The Sword(s) of Islam-Violent Jihad

Islam   Session Thirty-Six

Item #8:  The Sword(s) of Islam-Violent Jihad

Bullet #1:  War Verses in Koran and Hadith

Both the Koran and the Hadith contain numerous “war” verses.  These are verses that explicitly call for  warfare against specific individuals, classes of people (Jews, for example), nations and/or the world.  Since the Koran is considered the word of Allah and the Hadith is a record of the words and deeds of Muhammad these edicts must be followed by any and all Muslims.  Some examples of Koran “war” verses:

  • “Slay them (the infidels) wherever you find them . . . Idolatry is worse than carnage . . . fight against them until idolatry is no more and God’s religion reigns supreme.”
  • “Fight against them until there is no more oppression and all worship is devoted to Allah alone.” (Sura 8:39)
  • “Fight, then, in Allah’s cause, and know that Allah is all-hearing.” (Sura 2:244)
  • “Let those fight in the cause of Allah who sell the life of this world for the hereafter. To him who fights in the cause of Allah, whether he is slain or victorious, soon we shall give him a great reward.”  (Sura 4:74)
  • “It is not for any Prophet to have captives until he has made slaughter in the land.” (Sura 8:67)
  • “Prophet make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites and deal rigorously with them. Hell shall be their home.  (Sura 9:73)
  • “Unbelievers are enemies of Allah and they will roast in hell.” (Sura 41:14)
  • “Muhammad is Allah’s apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another.  Through them, Allah seeks to enrage the unbelievers.”  (Sura 48:29)
  • “Allah will humble the unbelievers. Allah and His apostle are free from obligations to idol-worshipers.  Proclaim a woeful punishment to the unbelievers.”  (Sura 9:2-3)
  • “When the sacred months are over, slay the idolaters wherever you find them. Arrest them, besiege them, and lie in ambush everywhere for them.”  (Sura 9:5)
  • “Fight (jihad) those who believe not in Allah or in the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which has been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, not acknowledge the Religion of Truth, from among the People of the Book until they pay the jizyah with willing submission.” (Sura 9:29)

For more Islamic proclamations of and for war in the Hadith, the Sira and by prominent Muslims; see Session #35.  The following is a command worth repeating because of its source and its unambiguous clarity from the Sira:  “Kill any Jew that falls into your power.”  (Sira, P. 369)  (The Sira, not to be confused with Sura, is the revered biography of Muhammad.)

In light of the many “sword” verses from the Koran, the Hadith, the Sira and the lips of prominent Muslims it is impossible for a Muslim to maintain the position that “Islam is the religion of peace.”  But they do!  Their brazen lies proclaimed, even in the face of overwhelming evidence, is also part of the Muslim culture.  In fact, it too (lying) is authorized by the Koran.  (See Session #28)

Islam’s history of conquests featuring the slaughter of millions of infidels, pillage and rape is proof that the above “sword” verses are taken literally by Muslims in their efforts to force Islam on the world.  Just two examples of wholesale slaughter; the conquest of a large part of India (current day Pakistan) when up to 80,000,000 Hindus were slaughtered and the genocide committed against the Christian Armenians when more than a million were killed are sufficient to disprove the claim that Islam is the “religion of peace.”  (See Session #26 for more details.)

Today, on a daily basis, Islam is committing acts of slaughter and pillage by various forces in the name of Allah.  The focal point of much of Islamic terrorist activities is the Middle East area of Israel and its Muslim neighbors. One cannot possibly understand the constant turmoil, punctuated periodically by actual warfare, among Israel and its neighbors without some knowledge of “how it got this way.”  This requires an understanding of the historical activities that have molded the area, the past and present political entities, the terrorist organizations active in the area, and more.

We could come forward from Biblical times to describe the many changes to the political landscape of the Middle East, but it is this writer’s opinion that a better understanding of the current situation can be had, and much less ink spilled, by starting with the area under the Ottoman Empire.

The Ottoman empire (the second Islamic Empire) reigned from 1299 to 1924, when it was disbanded after World War I (see Sessions #16, 17, 18 & 35).  The area that is now comprised of Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, The West Bank and Gaza was an underpopulated section of the eastern portion of the Ottoman Empire.  There was no recognized political entity known as Palestine, it was populated mainly by Jews and Arabs, and it was economically underdeveloped; much of it uncultivated and swampy.

Since the time of Muhammad, for almost fourteen centuries, the Jews in areas of Islam domination have been singled out for persecution.  However, the current fanatical hatred with its calls for the destruction of Israel and the myriad of forces dedicated to that destruction can trace its origin to a British policy statement made during World War I and actions of the League of Nations after World War I.

In a letter dated November 2, 1917 (one year prior to the end of WW I) from British Foreign Secretary Arthur James Balfour to Baron Walter Rothschild, a leader of the British Jewish community, the British desire for the establishment of a Jewish Homeland was outlined.  The sixty-seven word statement  declared, “His Majesty’s government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, . . . .”

After World War I, effective 9/29/1923, the League of Nations mandate divided that part of the former Ottoman Empire known as the “Fertile Crescent” among Great Britain, France and Russia.  Great Britain was mandated control over the area which is now Iraq, and the area which now includes the nations of Israel and Jordan, and Gaza.  (See Session #35)

These, and other factors, led to a significant increase in the Jewish population of the area and the eventual establishment of the nation of Israel in 1948.  The Muslim nations surrounding Israel have never accepted Israel’s “right” to exist.  This has led to 5 wars and countless terrorist attacks  in the six-plus decades of the current sovereign nation of Israel.

Some of the organizations and forces actively involved in this warfare with Israel are:

  • Muslim Brotherhood: The Brotherhood, founded in  Egypt in 1928, is the leading force in Islam’s effort to achieve a world-wide Islam.  It has spawned more than 45 front organizations (see#4, P. 235 for a list of 46 such organizations.) in America alone!  These organizations with benign names and official purposes are assigned to influence a particular area of North American society as part of Islam’s grand scheme to take over North America and the world.

“Allah is our goal; the Prophet is our guide; the Koran is our constitution; Jihad is our way; and death for the glory of Allah is our greatest ambition.”  This is the Muslim Brotherhood credo – a very good capsulized description of Islam.

In addition to the above noted “stealth jihad” organizations formed by the Muslim Brotherhood, it is the parent  organization of Al-Qaeda, the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and Hamas – all violent, militaristic organizations active against non-Muslim peoples, areas and countries.  (See Sessions #29 and #30 for a more detailed discussion of the Muslim Brotherhood.)

  • Hamas: As noted above, Hamas was established by the Muslim Brotherhood in 1987.  In its 1988 Charter, Hamas very clearly proclaimed its principles and goals.  Some selected passages from its Charter:“
    • “Allah is its goal, the Prophet its model, the Koran its Constitution, Jihad its path and death for the case of Allah its most sublime belief.” (Article 8)  Obviously, this was taken directly from the Muslim Brotherhood’s credo.
    • “Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.” (Preamble to Charter)
    • “The Day of Judgment will not come about until Muslims fight Jews and kill them. Then, the Jews will hide behind rocks and trees, and the rocks and trees will cry out:  ‘O Muslim, there I a Jew hiding behind me, come and kill him.’”  (Article 7)  This passage of the Charter is taken, word for word, from the Hadith of Bukhari: 4,52,176)
    • “The day the enemies usurp part of Muslim land, Jihad becomes the individual duty of every Muslim. In the face of the Jews’ usurpation, it is compulsory that the banner of Jihad be raised.”  (Article 15)  This passage emphasizes that Jihad is warfare, not just the mental/spiritual exercise of “striving in the path of Allah.  Also, it specifically targets the Jews and Israel and the “occupation” of the West Bank.
    • . . . “There is no solution for the Palestinian problem except by Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are but a waste of time, an exercise in futility.”  (Article 13)  This could not be more clear as to Hamas’, and Islam’s, attitude toward the “Palestinian problem.”

Obviously, Hamas will not be a party to any peaceful solution of this decades-old problem.

After Israel’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in 2005, Hamas won a majority in the Palestinian Parliament in 2006 and has governed the Gaza Strip since 2007.  It has also competed with Fatah for control of the West Bank which is presently under the control of  the Palestine Liberation Organization of which Fatah is the dominant force.

Hamas has used its position in the Gaza Strip to attack Israel with suicide bombings and rocket attacks.  For example:

  • From December 2001 to September 2010 Hamas conducted at least 40 suicide attacks against Israel, killing 296 and injuring more than 1,500.
  • In 2012 Hamas bombarded Israel with an estimated 2,257 rockets from the Gaza.

With good reason the United States, Canada, the European Union, Jordan and Egypt have classified Hamas as a terrorist organization.  With its declaration that there is no solution for the Palestinian problem except by Jihad and its history of conducting terrorist acts one has to wonder why many more countries have not so classified Hamas.

Hamas has received funding from Iran, Saudi Arabia and the “Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development”  (An offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood).  Funding from Iran ceased about 2010 because of different views of  Syria’s problems.

From 1995 to 22001, Hamas received more than $12,000,000 from the Holy Land Foundation.  In 2001 the U.S. Treasury Department seized its assets and shut it down.  In 2008 five Holy Land Foundation officers were give prison sentences, two of them for 65 years.

  • Fatah and the Palestinian Liberation Organization: Fatah is the primary component of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (“PLO”).  As such it is an integral piece of the complex political situation in the West Bank.  In accordance with the terms of the “Oslo Accords” which was signed by the PLO and Israel, the Palestinian Authority became the recognized administrative body that governed Palestinian population centers in the West Bank; while Israel was given control of the airspace, territorial waters and border crossings.

In 2005 Fatah renounced armed resistance against Israel, which angered Hamas; and Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip.  Fatah still controls the West Bank through the PLO and Hamas conducts its terrorist acts from the Gaza Strip.

Next session we will continue our discussion of the Sword(s) of Islam-Violent Jihad, beginning with Hezbollah.
