The Sword(s) of Islam-Violent Jihad (continued)

Islam  Session Thirty-Seven

Item # 8:  The Sword(s) of Islam-Violent Jihad

Bullet #6: Hezbollah

Hezbollah (“Party of Allah”) was formed during the 1982 civil war in Lebanon by a consolidation of Shiite militias.  This founding was aided and abetted by Iran which, at that time, was headed by Ayatollah Khomeini.

The manifesto of Hezbollah is very revealing:  “ . . . As for our culture, it is based on the Koran, the Sunnah and the legal rulings of the faqih (an expert in Islamic jurisprudence and Islamic law) who is our source of imitation . . . . Our struggle will end only when this entity (Israel) is obliterated.”  Officials of Hezbollah have repeatedly stated that its primary goal, and reason for being, is the elimination of Israel.

In an American magazine article, Hezbollah’s Secretary General, Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, clearly stated Islam’s hatred of the Jews:  “If we searched the entire world for a person more cowardly, despicable, weak and feeble in psyche, mind, ideology and religion, we would not find anyone like the Jew.  Notice, I do not say the Israeli.”  (The New Yorker, October 14, 2002)

Hezbollah is both a political and military organization and is a virtual state within a state (Lebanon).  There is strong evidence that it receives financial support, weapons and military training from Iran.  It justifies its attacks on Israel as a response to alleged Israeli  operations against Lebanon and occupation of Lebanese territory.  Since 1982 it has committed hundreds of terrorist  and suicide attacks against Israel and American armed forces, in addition to outright armed conflicts with Israel, including:

  • Hezbollah participated in the 1982-2000 conflict with Israel. It was aided by more than 1,000 Iranian Revolutionary Guards in addition to financial aid from Iran.
  • The bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut in April, 1983 which killed 63 people.
  • The 1983 Beirut barracks bombing that killed 241 U.S. marines.
  • The hijacking of TWA flight 847 in 1985; the terrorizing of its passengers and killing of a U.S. Navy sailor.
  • The 1992 Israeli Embassy attack in Buenos Aires which killed 29 persons.
  • In 1994 AC Flight 901 attack in Panama, killing 21 persons.
  • In 2006 a 34-day military conflict between Hezbollah and the Israeli military included Hezbollah launching thousands of rockets against Israeli civilians and the deaths of approximately 1,200 Lebanese citizens (including combatants) and 165 Israelis (including soldiers)
  • In 2012 the Burgas, Bulgaria bus bombing which killed 6.

Clearly, Hezbollah deserves its labeling as a “Terrorist Organization” by the U.S., United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, The Netherland and other countries.

Al-Qaeda (“The Base”)

Mention Al-Qaeda and 9/11/2001, and Osama bin Laden are immediately associated.  And the connection is real.  Al-Qaeda was formed by Osama bin Laden, and other associates, and it did  plan and organize the 9/11/2001 attacks on U.S. targets.

Al-Qaeda was organized in 1988 or 1989 during the Soviet/Afghanistan war.  It operates training camps in various countries, including; The Sudan, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq.  Its goal is to establish a world-wide Islamic Caliphate.  It has been funded by Osama bin-Laden and Saudi Arabia.  It has targeted non-Sunni Muslims, non-Muslims and others it considers to be Infidels, particularly America and Americans.

Since Osama bin-Laden’s death in 2011, Al-Qaeda’s terrorist attacks have largely been planned and executed by lower-level associated groups or individuals as opposed to large operations, featuring multiple targets, planned and directed from the top.

A partial list of its terrorist attacks include:

  • On December 29, 1992, Al-Qaeda’s first attack was committed in Aden, Yemen. Its target was American troops who had been staying in a hotel there.  Fortunately, the troops had left the hotel prior to the bomb’s exploding.
  • On February 26, 1993 it detonated a truck bomb below the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York. Six people were killed and more than a thousand were injured.
  • On October 12, 2000 it bombed the USS Cole, killing 17 and injuring 39 sailors. The USS Cole is a guided missile destroyer that was in port at Aden, Yemen.
  • Al-Qaeda’s most destructive action was the 9/11/2001 hijacking of four American commercial airliners and their suicide crashes. The destruction of the World Trade Center, the damage to the Pentagon and the crash in rural Pennsylvania resulted in almost 3,000 persons killed and more than 6,000 injured. It should be noted that 15 of the 19 Muslim hijackers were citizens of Saudi Arabia.
  • The April 11, 2002 bombing of the Ghriba, Tunisia synagogue killed 19 persons and injured more than 30.
  • The May 16, 2003 Casablanca, Morocco suicide bombing killed 33 persons in addition to the 12 suicide bombers.
  • The November 15 and 20, 2003 truck-bombings in Istanbul, Turkey killed 57 persons and injured 700.
  • On March 2, 2004 in Ashura, Iraq a series of explosions killed more than 170 and injured about 500 Iraqi Shiite Muslims.
  • The March 27, 2007 truck bombings of Shiite areas of Tal Afar, Iraq killed 152 and wounded 347 people.
  • On July 13, 2008 Al-Qaeda and Taliban guerrillas attacked NATO soldiers near the village of Wanat in eastern Afghanistan. In one of the bloodiest battles of the  war, nine U.S. soldier were killed and 27 wounded.
  • The September 20, 2008 bombing of the Marriott hotel in Islamabad, Pakistan which killed 54 persons and wounded 266
  • On October 25, 2009 bombings in Baghdad, Iraq killed 155 persons and injured more than 700.
  • The January 16, 2013 hostage crisis in In Amenas, Algeria resulted in 39 hostages being killed, along with 29 terrorists.

Al-Qaeda, though not the force it was when Osama bin-Laden was its leader, is still a powerful Muslim terrorist organization.  This agent of the “Religion of Peace” is dedicated to establishing world-wide Islamic rule as its long history of terrorist attacks attests.

ISIS  (“Islamic State in Iraq and Greater Syria”, or simply “Islamic State”)

This sociopathic gang of marauders emulating the Prophet of 1400 years ago is the current poster boy for the “religion of peace.”  ISIS was organized in 1999 as Jama’ at-al-Tawhid wal-al-Jihad (“JTJ”) with allegiance to al-Qaeda and Osama bin-Laden by Jordanian radical Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

It burst onto the world scene in 2002 when it assassinated U.S. diplomat Laurence Foley in Jordan.  Using recruited foreign fighters it became a resistance force against U.S. troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.  The stated goals of JTJ were to drive the U.S. out of Iraq, overthrow the Iraqi government, purge the land of all Shiite Muslims and establish and Islamic State.  In 2004 it merged with Al-Qaeda in Iraq and formed the Islamic State of Iraq (“ISI”).  Later in 2004 it pledged allegiance to Osama bin-Laden’s Al-Qaeda and became Al-Qaeda in Iraq (“AQI”).  An internecine struggle ensued between Zarqawi and Al-Qaeda causing Zarqawi to pursue disengagement from Al-Qaeda.  In June, 2006 before he could accomplish his goal, he was killed. In October of that year AQI merged with other terrorist groups to form the Islamic State in Iraq (ISI).  In 2012, during the Syrian civil war, the al-Nusra Front in Syria (created by ISI members sent into Syria) and ISI united to form the “Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham” (“ISIS”).  In June, 2014 ISIS proclaimed a Caliphate with Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as Caliph and “leader for Muslims everywhere.”  This self-proclaimed third Islamic Empire was not accepted by most of the Muslim world – but it is strong evidence to support their declared goal of having Islam control the world.

According to the Jewish Virtual Library posting of May, 2016; ISIS is the richest terrorist group in history with assets totaling over $2 billion. Its fund-raising activities included taxing subjugated people, robbing banks, abductions and ransoms, extortion and drugs.  Today’s ISIS still uses these sources of funds and has added the sale of petroleum from captured oil wells in Syria and Iraq.  This funding has been augmented by the capture of millions of dollars-worth of military equipment, including firearms, ammunition, artillery and military vehicles.  Much of this was left from the Sadam Hussein era.  In addition, large amounts of military equipment of untold value provided to the Iraqi military forces by America has ended up in the possession of ISIS.  A particularly onerous example of the latter was the capture of 2,300 Humvees (armored light utility  vehicles) when ISIS overran Mosul (Iraq’s second largest city) in June of 2014.

ISIS has become the strongest and most vicious Islamic force in the world.  Its 20,000 to 30,000 troops have secured vast territories in Syria and Iraq employing a scorched earth policy that has produced close to 8,000,000 refugees, thousands dead and a legacy of wanton cruelty, torture, mass murders and the destruction of priceless antiquities.

The cruelty, the depravity of ISIS acts perpetrated against conquered people are almost unbelievable:

  • In February, 2015 the beheading of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians in Libya simply because they were infidels,
  • In January, 2015 a captured Jordanian pilot, shot down over Syria, was burned alive in a cage,
  • Beheaded women accused of sorcery,
  • Buried children alive,
  • Crucified children in public,
  • Used mentally handicapped children as suicide bombers,
  • Used mustard gas on Kurdish forces in Iraq,
  • Slaughtered 1,700 Iraqi soldiers taken prisoner when Tikrit fell in 2014,
  • Forced Christians in Mosul, once home to 60,000 Christians, to leave the city or be killed,
  • In 2015 in Aleppo, Syria, ISIS tortured, raped, beheaded and crucified twelve Christians for refusing to convert. Other Christians were put in coffins and cages which were set on fire.

By early 2016, ISIS controlled areas in Syria and Iraq; home to approximately 10,000,000 people.  (Institute for the Study or War; April 26, 2016)  Also it controls approximately 60% of Syria’s oil producing capacity and a significant portion of Iraq’s.  The ISIS onslaught in Iraq and Syria has displaced more than 7,000,000 persons in Syria alone, in addition to the millions of refugees noted above. These refugees have fled to Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Europe and America.

Barak Obama’s glib remark, made in January of 2014, that ISIS is the “Junior Varsity” has proven to be totally inaccurate.   In addition to its control of substantial land, population and resources in the Middle East; ISIS has established itself in America.

According to a report prepared by Judicial Watch, ISIS has an operational and training camp just eight miles south of the border, just west of Ciudad Juarez in the Mexican state of Chihuahua.  This camp and another just west of Ciudad Juarez train ISIS personnel; and observe activities at the White Sands Missile Range, government facilities in Alamogordo, and Fort Bliss.  The report also stated that the Juarez Cartel (one of the infamous Mexican cartels that control illegal activities in Mexico and along the U.S./Mexican border) help move ISIS terrorists through the desert and across the border between Santa Teresa and Sunland Park, New Mexico and between Acala and Fort Hancock, Texas.  (Judicial Watch Corruption Chronicles website; April 14, 2015)  Both the American and Mexican governments deny the validity of the report which was prepared from highly reliable Mexican sources.

Further evidence of the presence of ISIS in America is provided by ISIS itself.  As reported May 10, 2015 on the website of Americans United for Freedom; ISIS claims to have 71 “fighters” in 15 different states who have signed up for jihadi “death missions.”

ISIS has been designated a terrorist organization by the UN, the European Union, the USA, Russia, India, Indonesia, Israel and many other countries.  Despite being attacked by the military forces of several countries including America, the UK and Russia; ISIS continues to bring death and destruction to the Middle East.

Next session we will continue our discussion of the Sword(s) of Islam-Violent Jihad.
